this is the only update loki update today,i added the metal detail onto the left sleeve, this is now 100% finished and ready to sew onto the main shirt, tomorrow i will finish the other arm and put in the collar and the tunic is finished, ill finish off the boot covers tomorrow too if i have the time :)
loki mid costume update, the sleeves are almost ready to attach to the shirt, ive benn working on them since 9 this morning its now 4 in the afternoon ): ,theres a hell of alot of hand sewing going into these sleeves beacuse of the amount of leather i dont want to put my machine at risk from breaking from all the layers,im currently sewing on the god decoration by hand but i wanted to share these pics with you now :)
Craft quest today was successful. I went looking for iron on decorations to use for the coat trim, and found these, instead. This is just rough. I need to get at them with a pair of pliers to neaten things up.
If anyone is interested, they’re called Fastenater decorative staple bars. I’m not sure where you would find them. Lincraft had them on clearance.
Loki Cosplay: Progress and New Materials
So I’ve FINALLY found a material that’s very similar to the embossed leather on Loki’s over-layer, midsection, and sleeves. It’s not identical, but I’m now reasonably convinced that nothing identical exists for purchase by us normal schmucks. Maybe big-budget costume designers have access to secret caches of fabric, but after a month of searching, I can’t find it, so the stuff I have will more than suffice. If you’re interested, it is the “Mini Wicker Weave Faux Leather” in Ebony from FabricCarolina.com, for 26.98 per yard.
In other news, I’ve cut out and begun sewing the pattern pieces for the…bodice(?) of the over-layer. When I say that, I mean the midsection area. That portion is rarely so structured in menswear, so I don’t actually think it has a proper name. The tails and shoulder pieces have been patterned, but I haven’t included them in the photograph because they are to be cut (at least partially) from the embossed pleather, so I’ll show you those pieces when I get the proper fabric in. All I have now is that sample.
Also, I’ve taken the silver Bead Gallery beads and given them a light coating of brass spray paint and aerosol sealant to make them match the color of the armor better. if you’ll recall my first post, hundreds of those will be the trim on the over-layer and tunic.
Regarding all my posts, if you’re a cosplayer yourself (or simply interested) and would like information or advice on anything, feel free to drop a question in my ask box.
only a small update tonight, still working on lokis shirt ,this thing takes forever! still its nearly done ,added the detail to the bottom of the shirt and added the 2nd layer behind the bottom part of the shirt, the small metal pieces i had to bend and attach by hand then heat them with an iron so the glue would attach to the leather ,there are over 300 just on these 2 bottom pieces ,i attached the 2nd green layers with fabric glue as i couldnt sew it beacuse if i did youd see the stitching on the other side . tomorrow,im attaching the collar and working on the sleeves :) ,maybe 3 more days and ill have the shirt finished, then i will start work on the jacket .
Today’s progress :D
All the tails are lined and (to my relief) the coat fits together. It’s currently just pinned together (and I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve stabbed myself with the pins.
Now I need to start plotting the tunic, and painting the “armour” plates for the pant legs.
Less than a month to go.
sleeves pics, tried to do a step by step, these are very early stage,at the moment all strips of faux leather are cut to the width 1.5 inches
front and back of shirt nearly finished ,few details need to be added but other than that, its all good ,alot of hand sewing went into this today
at a request from a follower, here are my pattern pieces for my loki cosplay, please bear in mind as i went along i only used these as rough guides, some parts i made longer or shorted as i went along, some are yet to be modified,so use them but if your unsure of any part, please test it out on scrap fabric first ,they are orginaly based off a size small mens fruit of the loom tshirt ,i tried to put all the measurements on the pieces . some are in inchs, some are in cm’s sorry for being difficult XD just the way i work XD
